    ABOUT THE EVENT

Every second Saturday in the summer months, the Prindle School and Cider House Media have partnered to bring you music and art experiences during the Easthampton Art Walk at Cider House’s new art gallery, #LOCAL. On July 14, the theme of the event is AN EXCURSION IN COLOR.

The musical installation at this event will have two parts, music performed live and recorded music, alternating between the two throughout the event.

The live music will be an exploration of the work of Isaac Newton. Newton was the first to select the seven colors that would become the colors of the rainbow. He selected seven colors because he wanted to associate each color with a particular musical pitch. The live performance will be an improvisation that works its way around Newton’s color wheel by exploring the musical possibilities of each pitch (and thus each color).

The recorded music will be an exploration of music, color, and mood. As you listen, examine the mood that the music creates and which color best represents that mood. Researchers have found that humans tend to have common associations among music, mood, and colors. For more on the experiment, check out https://theconversation.com/every-song-has-a-color-and-an-emotion-attached-to-it-45537
