Western MA based trumpeter/vocalist has been playing and improvising in front of audiences from the age of 10. He received his Bachelor’s degree in music with a concentration of Jazz and African American music studies from the University of Massachusetts. There he studied trumpet and composition under Eric Berlin and Jeff Holmes, and jazz voice under Catherine Jensen-Hole.
Since then, Nick has become a Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist who has recorded on over 25 albums, including his own compositions, and has toured extensively. He currently plays trumpet and sings in many New England bands and continues to be one of the area’s most used studio trumpet players and horn section composers.
In the last decade he has taught music students of various ages and skill levels, and has been used as a brass section coach and a teacher in improvisation workshops. His pedagogy involves basic facility on the instrument or voice, but also goes beyond to teach for real-life concert situations such as microphone technique, complimentary playing, and improvisation.
