Drummer, educator and producer Colin Jalbert found his obsession with music at the early age of 5. His formative years were spent drumming along to everything from Led Zeppelin to Bob Marley, soaking in as much of the language as possible before beginning his formal studies with Clark Seibold at age 13. In 2012, he graduated from Westfield State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and immediately took on the role of middle school music teacher in the opening year of NEASC accredited Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, MA.
When he is not busy touring with his own band, electronic outfit Mammal Dap, he enjoys genre-hopping and supporting folk-rock songwriters like Ryan Hommel and Heather Maloney. His touring career began with psych-folk band Sun Parade and Senegalese hip-hop/world-fusion ensemble Gokh-Bi System. He has also had the pleasure of playing with members of contemporary funk/jazz icons Snarky Puppy, Lettuce, The Motet, Turkuaz, Kung Fu and many more.
With over 20 years of playing experience and 8 years of teaching experience, he brings a fresh, passionate and focused approach to lessons. Colin’s lessons are personalized to each student’s unique experience and musical taste to develop creativity and musicality — building fundamentals and technique while not letting those overshadow the joy of making music.
