Shimon Ben-Shir

Shimon Ben Shir graduated Berklee College of Music in 1994. Originally from Israel, Shimon has performed with the Bustan Abraham Band, a Middle Eastern group which has performed at numerous music festivals throughout the world. Shimon was also a part of the What's New Jazz Septet, a collective composer's project. In this setting Shimon began to develop and grow as a professional musician.

Over the past several years, Shimon has composed for and lead his own band, The Shimon Ben-Shir Group, which frequently performs to packed houses in the Greater Boston area. Shimon’s albums have received numerous favorable reviews as well as a feature article in the Boston Globe. The Group was featured at the Boston First Night Artist Show that took place at Rabb Hall in the Boston Public Library.

Shimon believes that playing music should be fun, not overwhelming or frustrating. He strives to create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere while encouraging his students to gradually grow comfortable with increasingly challenging material.
