Blake Logan
Blake Logan is a cellist and music educator originally from Los Angeles, California. He began playing cello at the age of 5, went on to play in the Colburn Youth Orchestra, and received a Bachelors of Music in cello performance from Oberlin Conservatory in May 2025. In his teaching, Blake fosters a fundamental understanding of cello technique and music theory so that his students can authentically express their musical ideas. Classically trained but also passionate about composing his own music in styles ranging from Jazz to Jewish folk music, Blake supports his students in writing their own music and exploring the musical styles they feel most called to. He is excited to hear what you love about music and give you the skills to love it even more!
Blake has received numerous performance accolades, including winning the Lawrence University Concerto Competition and performing as soloist with the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra. Blake has performed as a guest artist at the Early Music America national summit and received the Dolores White Prize, a grant awarded to Oberlin Conservatory students fostering diversity in music by programming recitals featuring the music of historically underrepresented composers.
Dedicated to using music as a tool for social justice, Blake has performed with and arranged music for the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organizations Urban Voices Project and Street Symphony, which use choir rehearsals and orchestral concerts to connect people experiencing homelessness to community and health services.
Blake is also passionate about environmental science, and currently works in a soil ecology lab at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where his research focuses on soil ecology in efforts to conserve forests and foster more sustainable farming practices.
